A woman was walking down a secluded beach when she came upon a lamp, just barely visible below the surface of the sand. She picked up the lamp and began to clear the dirt and sand away. The rubbing of the lamp began to make it glow and heat up. A genie suddenly emerged from the lamps spout in a cloud of purple mist.
Standing in awe, the woman asked the genie if he was there to grant her three wishes.
“Sorry lady, but I’m not in the three-wish business, I’m strictly a one-wish genie. So, how would you like to use your wish. Think carefully now.”
The woman took a moment to think and answered, “Well, I’ve always wanted to travel to Europe, but I’m too claustrophobic to fly and I get terrible seasickness on ships. I want a bridge over the Atlantic so that I can drive there.”
The genie’s eyes jumped in shock at the request. “A bridge to Europe?! I can’t do that. No way! The logistics alone, I mean I’d have to find the builders, create international treaties. Can’t be done. You’ll have to think of another wish.”
The woman thought again and said, “Okay, well, I haven’t exactly been lucky in love. I want a man who is thoughtful and sensitive, who can figure out what I want without being asked. Someone who doesn’t watch sports all day and will tell me what he’s thinking. Someone who is fun and caring and who cooks and cleans. That’s what I wish for.”
The genie thought for a moment and stroked his beard before answering.
“How many lanes do you want on that damn bridge?”
